Lifelong Duluth resident and its most recent Mayor Nancy Harris has become chair of the Hudgens Center for Art and Learning. Her two-year term began on Jan. 1, 2024. This will be the second time Harris has served as chair.

FOCUS: Walton EMC awards $241,500 in grants to schools

By Savannah Chandler |  Walton EMC is lighting up learning in K-12 classrooms within its 10-county service area. Cooperative representatives delivered checks totaling more than $241,500 to public and private school educators whose innovative ideas for creative learning projects were selected to receive a grant.

ANOTHER VIEW: Natural gas at 14-year high, so expect higher heating bill

By Savannah Chandler |  Electric utility consumers are feeling the pinch from record high natural gas prices through their power bills. Natural gas prices are currently at a 14-year high, up 525 percent since June 2020. Besides other factors, inflation is also impacting natural gas prices.

NEWS BRIEFS: Hampton to be Veteran’s Day speaker on Nov. 11

Speaker for the 28th annual Veteran’s Day observance at the Fallen Heroes Memorial in Gwinnett County will be retired Army Col. Dolores Hampton, who  lives in Atlanta, and retired from the United States Army in 1997 after 26 years of service. The ceremony will begin at 11:11 a.m. on November 11 in front of the Gwinnett Judicial and Administration Center.
