ANOTHER VIEW: Read Thomas Jefferson letter to “Monsieur Brack”

By Andy Brack | The title of the page on the Library of Congress website got my attention:  “Thomas Jefferson to Brack, March 2, 1788, in French.” For some reason – who knows why? – when tooling around on the library’s website in the spring, I entered my last name into the search engine and got that unexpected result.

FOCUS: A glance at religious freedom and the fate of Monticello

By John Titus  |  One of the three achievements for which Thomas Jefferson wanted to be remembered was as the author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. Although he initially wrote it in 1777, it ultimately did not pass the Virginia legislature until 1786.
