Gwinnett Commissioners this week adopted the 2024 millage rate at 6.95 mills for the general fund, which is no change from the 2023 rate.

FOCUS: Looking at the many ways Americans are taxed

Taxes on cash flow, such as on earned income, unearned income, and capital gains; taxes on real and personal property; and purchase taxes, such as sales and VAT taxes. Local and state jurisdictions have a variety of other taxes and user fees, depending on their perceived need, their various agendas, and what they think they can get away with.

By Jack Bernard  |  When I was a Georgia county commissioner, I was chair of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia’s tax committee. As chairman of a BOC, using cost/benefit analysis, I also got my board to lower annual local tax increases from 10 percent annually to 1 percent. When I got off the BOC, taxes went right back up.

NEWS BRIEFS: Commissioners adopt same millage rate for 2022

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners have adopted the same general fund millage rate as last year, 6.95 mills.  Prior to the vote, the Board held three public hearings and accepted comments through the County’s website.
