FOCUS: In era of NRA influence, mass killings continue in USA

By Raleigh Perry  |  The Gun Violence Archive counted 648 mass shootings in 2022 in our country. In 2023, mass killings began with at least 36 dead in January. This is ridiculous and could be cut way down with national controls on guns.

FOCUS: Be warned: Republican-led Congress might attack Social Security

By Raleigh Perry  |  Many, if not most, of the Republicans in the House and Senate really want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare.  I think anything that they do will end up in the Supreme Court and if they eliminate, or lessen, Social Security and Medicare, their move will be overturned.

ANOTHER VIEW: Some considerations about the Oxford comma

By Raleigh Perry  |  With obviously anything else to do except complete many unfilled positions for doctors and nurses and fix dilapidated hospitals and other things, the new head of Britain’s Health Agency wants its staff to stop using the Oxford comma.  She said that there are just too many commas.

FOCUS: Some reasons that newspapers may be declining

By Joe Briggs  |  While I grieve with Raleigh Perry on the demise of U.S. newspapers, I disagree with his analysis. He states that people who once stayed informed through daily newspapers have shifted to the convenience of the internet. But he then laments the absence of any substance in the nightly broadcasts. So have the consumers lost interest in the news, or have the news providers lost interest in the consumers?

FOCUS: Our democracy may be in trouble with today’s poorer newspapers

By Raleigh Perry |  Coming from a family in Chattanooga with a lot of newspaper people in it and having a newspaper on my breakfast and dinner tables, I have an appreciation of the printed media.  There were two dailies.  The Times in the morning and the Free Press in the afternoon. One leaned left, the other right.
