FOCUS: Group seeks to have 50,000 conversations about transportation

By Joel Wascher | The week of August 24-28, leaders as well as hundreds of other volunteers in Gwinnett will be focusing on what role transportation plays in shaping Gwinnett’s future, and what they want that future to look like. The program, called the “Gr8 Exchange on Transportation,” was kicked off on August 3 with nearly 100 community leaders starting the conversation on this subject.

ANOTHER VIEW: Rare time for transit decision

By George Wilson | A county stands and falls on the decisions and vision of her leaders. All too rarely, a county has an opportunity to decide an issue that will set its future course for generations to come. Such is bringing of rail to Gwinnett County. Now is the time to act and show some bold leadership and not be bureaucratic care takers of the status quo.

FOCUS: Site seeks to raise funding to promote mass transit in Gwinnett

By Jack Snyder, director, Gwinnett Needs Mass Transit | Do you commute to work in the Atlanta area? Is sitting in traffic jams worth using your own car? Does our lack of spending on road infrastructure in the Atlanta area bother you? If you answered “Yes” to these questions, then it is time to really consider mass transit as an alternative. Whether you like it or not MARTA is now the best alternative solution.

FOCUS: Overheard bus conversation gives hope

By Jock Ellis | CUMMING, Ga., June 30, 2015 — NBA hoops was the first thing I heard when I would hop aboard a MARTA bus headed toward the Lindbergh Station.

Two guys, one on either side of the aisle, would be deep in conversation about the previous night’s game. Both clearly enjoyed getting to talk about something they obviously loved. One guy was a 40ish black man wearing work khakis while the other, a 30-something white guy, was dressed in a three-piece, blue pinstripe suit. Their conversations would run from before I hopped on until we disembarked to await the train. And maybe after.
