By John Titus  |  On a recent overseas trip my wife, Molly, and I spent five  days in Morocco, officially the Kingdom of Morocco. Located in northwest Africa, it overlooks the Mediterranean to the north and the Atlantic to the west.

ANOTHER VIEW: Are Independent Redistricting Commissions the answer?

By John Titus  |  In October 2023, a federal judge ordered the Georgia legislature to redraw state legislative and congressional districts for the 2024 election. The legislature did so, and the governor signed the bill. As of this writing the judge has not ruled whether the new map is acceptable.

FOCUS: A glance at religious freedom and the fate of Monticello

By John Titus  |  One of the three achievements for which Thomas Jefferson wanted to be remembered was as the author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. Although he initially wrote it in 1777, it ultimately did not pass the Virginia legislature until 1786.

By John Titus |  Increasingly, I am concerned by the challenges facing our nation in the coming years. Most issues are ones that are debated as to which approaches are the best – progressive or conservative. People of good will can often reach compromises which allow solutions to emerge, and progress made. The challenges to which I refer are much more fundamental and involve the norms underlying our democracy.
