FOCUS: County buys 26 more acres at Gwinnett Place 

By Brian Brodrick  |  The Gwinnett County commissioners this week approved the Urban Redevelopment Agency of Gwinnett County’s purchase of the Macy’s sites at Gwinnett Place Mall, totaling 23 acres, for $16.5 million. The board also approved the issuance of bonds to fund the purchase through its Urban Redevelopment Agency. This is the next step in the redevelopment of the mall area.

FOCUS: County adopts Gwinnett Place Mall redevelopment plan

By Deborah Tuff  |  The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has  adopted the final Equitable Redevelopment Plan for the Gwinnett Place Mall. The plan was informed by eight months of community engagement with direct input from over 2,000 Gwinnett residents and focuses on a new model for equitable development to benefit historically marginalized communities.

The Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Team has completed a redevelopment concept of what the dying Gwinnett Place Mall site could become. Its Global Villages concept is based on extensive community input and a data-driven, market supportable and economically feasible analysis.

Through a blind taste test and vote, the Georgia Association of Water Professionals named Gwinnett County’s drinking water the Best Tasting Water in Georgia. Winning this award qualifies Gwinnett to compete in the national American Water Works Association competition against utilities across the country.

Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID) has elected two new board members and re-elected one board member. The newly elected board members include Ondria Jett, regional manager for Banyan Street Capital,  and Christopher Caltabiano, senior vice president at Northwood Investors.

The Gwinnett Place Mall Site Revitalization Team, which is comprised of the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID), Gwinnett County, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) and the planning firm Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB), are planning multiple events to provide the community with opportunities to weigh in on Gwinnett Place Mall site redevelopment concepts.
