BRACK: 66th Gwinnett County Fair starts Sept. 16 for 11 days

By Elliott Brack  |  The 66th Gwinnett County Fair will open its gates on September 16 and run for 11 days, closing September 26.  The 2020 Fair was cancelled because of the pandemic, but officials are hoping that the 2021 Fair can be held with restrictive policies to improve safety. The fair is held at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville, at 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway.

PHOTO ESSAY: Gwinnett County Fair

By Frank Sharp, Lawrenceville | The Gwinnett County Fair is one of the largest county fairs in the nation. I went twice, once at midday and then at night. Travel Tip: Go Grayson Highway to Davis Road and take that to the back gate so as to miss the gridlock on Sugarloaf Parkway. If you are on a budget and like down home cooking, the Old Time Restaurant is a good place to eat.

FOCUS: Help celebrate 25th year of “Farm Friends” at Gwinnett County Fair

By Sharon Cassidy | In 1991, two 4-H Program Assistants, Audrey Hardin and I, decided Gwinnett 4-H had served enough funnel cakes at the Gwinnett County Fair. We wanted to educate youth and adults about “farm” animals and where and what products come from the farm.

We went to the county extension agent, Bill Baughman, and asked to start the “Gwinnett 4-H Petting Zoo.”
