PCOM planning to establish second medical campus in Georgia

By Barbara Myers, Moultrie, Ga. | By signing a Memorandum of Agreement, representatives from Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in Philadelphia, Penn., agreed to develop a feasibility plan and present it for approval to the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) to develop an additional location in South Georgia. The College also operates a school of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Ga.

FOCUS: PCOM unveils plans for Primary Care Innovation Fund for healthcare

By Barbara Myers, Suwanee, Ga. | Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) has committed through its Foundation the allocation of $5 million to a new venture capital fund designed to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in the healthcare field, with a specific focus on primary care. Investments from across the country are being considered, with a focus on the Philadelphia and Atlanta metro areas, as PCOM’s branch campus (GA-PCOM) is located in Suwanee.

By Barbara Myers| When considering the study of medicine, pharmacy and biomedical sciences, it’s easy to picture microscopes, anatomy charts, chemical formulas and all things mathematical or scientific. We imagine healthcare students hunched over physiology textbooks and not, for instance, painting works of art or singing opera.

FOCUS: Ga-PCOM observes 10th year as medical school in Gwinnett

By Barbara Myers | Ten years ago in August 2005, Georgia Campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Ga-PCOM) welcomed its first class of 75 osteopathic medical students. Now the campus is celebrating this milestone by reflecting on its impact in Gwinnett County and the state of Georgia.

Founded in Suwanee, in 2005 as the only branch campus of the century-old Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Penn., Georgia Campus is home to more than 1,000 students and close to 140 faculty and staff members. The campus offers doctoral degrees in osteopathic medicine and pharmacy and the master’s degree in biomedical sciences with plans to expand its program offerings.
