HOUSTON: Some thoughts in defending Hillary Clinton after the election

By Debra Houston, contributing columnist | Let’s start this by defending Mrs. Clinton a bit. Her year to run for president was 2008. She was younger and prettier, less caustic and healthier. Her record as New York senator was positive. She didn’t have the baggage that serving as secretary of state brought her. The Dems decided they didn’t want her so they threw her out like old bathwater. Not unlike the way they threw out Bernie Sanders this time.

MYSTERY: No drought going on where this photograph was made

Wherever this Mystery Photograph was taken, you can tell that that area had plenty of rain, and the area was not like what many of us in North Georgia through North Florida are experiencing with the drought. The last significant rain in Gwinnett was September 18, moving closer to two months of no rain. Enough dry thoughts! If you can figure out this photo puzzle, send in your thoughts to elliott@brack.net and be sure to include your hometown.

BRACK: How ‘bout those Cubs? Berkmar marks 50th anniversary

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Today we’ll give you a breather and never mention something that has focused our attention for the last few months, if you get the drift of the thought.

HOW ‘BOUT THOSE CUBS! It was great to see normally an unsung key leader of the Cubs, the former Atlanta catcher David Ross, have a very good game, slamming a home run in what is perhaps his last game in professional baseball. After all, he’s 39, and crouching behind home plate must be much tougher now than previously.

FOCUS: Police as guardians when confronting situations in crisis

By Peter Boyce, Dacula, Ga. | Law enforcement has been thrust into a role of crisis intervention when confronted with persons suffering from mental illness and/or drug induced behavior.

The media now asserts that the police, as first responders who frequently confront individuals with severe mental illness or who are under the influence of drugs, must fulfill a legal obligation to protect the safety and welfare of the community as well as assess and safeguard the rights of people with disabilities such as mental illness or drug induced behavior.

A. BRACK: On presidential campaign and what might happen

A. BRACK: On presidential campaign and what might happen

By Andy Brack | Come November 8, Southerners will cast about 33 million votes in this oddest and nastiest of presidential elections. Of those, more than 15 million will be for the Democrat, Hillary Clinton. That’s a lot of blue living in what most assume is just red.

Yes, our region, just like our nation, is more purple than just red or blue.

Recent polls indicate Clinton likely will replicate Southern electoral victories by Barack Obama in 2008, with narrow wins in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. Republican nominee Donald Trump likely will carry the other Southern states, but 45 percent to 48 percent of voters in each probably won’t vote for him, based on past results.
