NEWS BRIEFS: Memorial service for body donors is May 13 at PCOM
Medical students at PCOM Georgia are learning about the intricacies of the human body firsthand, through the College’s body donation program. PCOM is one of three medical schools in the state that operates a full-time, 24/7 program of this nature. The service is Saturday, May 13 in the Atrium at PCOM Georgia, 625 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee.
NEWS BRIEFS: Medical school in Suwanee to graduate nearly 300
Close to 300 newly minted physicians, pharmacists, physical therapists, physician assistants, medical laboratory scientists and biomedical scientists will graduate from PCOM Georgia on Tuesday, May 23. The formal commencement ceremony will be held at the Gas South District, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, beginning at 1 p.m.
NEWS BRIEFS: Shelton, Dickison are new department heads for the county
Two new department directors have been named by Gwinnett County Administrator Glenn Stephens. Rebecca Shelton and Matthew Dickison are in new jobs as head of their departments. Shelton was named acting director of the Department of Water Resources last July. Dickison has been promoted to director of the Department of Planning and Development Department following Susan Canon’s recent retirement.
NEWS BRIEFS: Summit on AgTech innovation coming May 4 at GGC
The Rowen Foundation is partnering with Center for Global Health Innovation and Georgia Research Alliance to host the Convergence Summit: AgTech Innovation at the Intersections, which is devoted to collaboration among key industry sectors and the many interwoven priorities that bind them together—such as workforce, research and innovation—on Thursday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Cisco Auditorium at Georgia Gwinnett College.
NEWS BRIEFS: GGC’S “Roots to Shoots” program repurposes food waste
With more than 11,000 students and more than 1,000 faculty and staff, the dining hall at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) stays busy serving more than 3,000 meals daily. That can add up to a lot of food waste if all those diners don’t clean their plates. One student decided to find a way to repurpose all that organic material, making GGC’s dining operations more sustainable while at the same time providing a teaching tool to students.
NEWS BRIEFS: Firm donating $3 million in wound care products to Ukraine
A Georgia company is helping Ukraine US Network by donating $3 million of innovative wound care kits. ProgenaCare of Marietta, the regenerative healthcare company, makes ProgenaMatrix. This is an all-natural, human keratin matrix wound dressing, PhaseOne Health, whose hypochlorous acid cleanser effectively manages biofilm, bacteria and fungi in skin and wounds.
NEWS BRIEFS: Georgia Banking Co. launches new technology-based group
Georgia Banking Company (GBC), an Atlanta-based community bank, announced today the establishment of its new Payments and Technology Banking Group to cater to the complex payment needs of businesses. The new group will provide high-volume payments, complex treasury solutions, technology partnership and other corporate banking services.
