FOCUS: When will the key GOP leaders openly condemn Trump?

By Jack Bernard  |  Will former President Donald Trump finally be brought to justice? Trump is too shrewd to believe Giuliani’s words. They are just red meat for the blind, hungry, alienated base.

FOCUS: Clearer each day why he left the Republican Party

By Jack Bernard  |  The Grand Old Party ran in 2022 on its “Commitment to America Plan.” Leader Kevin McCarthy repeatedly trumpeted that if Republicans took the majority in the House, that in 2023 they would immediately address their priorities as outlined in that plan to fight inflation, secure the border and reduce illegal immigration, give parents more control over education, preserve our freedom, and support Medicare and Social Security.

FOCUS: Is corporate greed the source of many of our problems?

By Ashley Herndon  |  This expansion of greed needs journalists and the owners of media to take notice and act.  Where are Upton Sinclair, Ida Tarbell, Jack Anderson, and William Serrin in today’s media? My best guess is the current corporate owners will not hire them unless they lie like the actors under the thumb of people like Fox, Newsmax, One America and ilk.

FOCUS: Check out hospital rankings for Metro Atlanta

By Jack Bernard |  Much of my career was spent working with large hospital systems, some of the best in the nation. Professionally, I found it difficult but not impossible to rank hospitals. One simple but reasonably reliable source for potential patients to use is the US News and World Report, which annually lists the best hospitals both nationally and within each state.

FOCUS: Here it comes again: misguided “Plantation Capitalism”

By Ashley Herndon |  If any of our citizenry does not think “Plantation Capitalism” is being unleashed upon us, again, we need to review the U.S. History, not the conflated opinions of Tea Partiers, QAnons, Trumpsters, et al.  We can begin with an easily available reference in pre-Civil War history.

FOCUS: Comment from a recent meeting with Gwinnett’s School Board

By Cathy Loew  |  Let me agree wholeheartedly with Jack Bernard’s Today’s Focus.  Our Gwinnett Schools are a mess and not many people are paying attention. Perhaps people will notice when we lose a bond rating, employers choose not to move to Gwinnett or Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students can’t get into the University of Georgia.

FOCUS: Gwinnett teacher shortage and low-rated local schools

By Jack Bernard  |  With 3,112 openings, Georgia has one of the highest numbers of teacher vacancies in the nation. Of the 37 states reporting, only Florida has more teacher vacancies. Georgia is currently in a pitched battle for teachers with surrounding states, which also have vacancies.
