FOCUS: Gwinnett couple on jaunt out west enjoying the sights

Rather than leaving family, hearth, and friends behind, we are seeking to reunite with friends of old, family we haven’t seen in years, enjoy the geology and geography of the different regions, sightsee a bit, and touch the last of the lower 48 that we haven’t visited.

By Amanda Brown Olmstead  |  Local business and civic leaders will pay tribute to President Jimmy Carter by staging an exhibition of the new honorary banners that line a two-mile stretch of Jimmy Carter Boulevard. The event will be on May 23 at 10 a.m. at the parking lot of Global Mall in Norcross, right on the street named for the 39th president of the United States, the only one from Georgia.

FOCUS: Tuwanda R. Williams will seek Gwinnett Superior Court seat

Tuwanda Rush Williams, who has served as a senior assistant county attorney and a deputy county attorney in the Gwinnett County Attorney’s Office for the past nearly 18 years, will run for the Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge seat being vacated by Judge Karen Beyers. Her last day as a county employee will be May 17, 2023.

FOCUS: We must resist, reclaim, rebuild and be counted

By Ashley Herndon  |  We must counter corruption, inequality, false faiths and thievery.  Fear is not a viable mechanism.  Corruption is unsustainable as the wolf chases its tail.  The snake will devour itself, so we must avoid the pitfalls of bogus populism.  True populism is people power, not hateful corporate demagoguery.

The GOP has been disingenuous on this issue, lowering taxes on the wealthy while not cutting expenses. Under President Trump, our deficit reached new higher levels.
