Elliott Brack’s Perspective

This photograph shows some of the destruction of a tornado which hit Albany, Ga., last week. The City of Lawrenceville Electric Division sent four people, plus a bucket truck and equipment, to help in the restoring of power for four days, from Tuesday to Friday. A total of 23 cities sent crews to South Georgia to help in the cleanup, while two contractors also sent crews.

BRACK: How about eliminating the manufacturing of mobile homes?

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | The winds of nature can cause massive destruction. The continued and long-lasting winds of a hurricane cause enormous damage. Luckily, these days the weather forecasters can tell you often days in advance where a hurricane is likely to hit. While it may leave tremendous infrastructure and building damage, widespread human deaths are curtailed with the weather forecasters’ early warnings.

BRACK: Gerrymandering still rampant, with a long history in our country

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Gerrymandering. It’s a menace to democracy, awkward, unnatural, outlandish, usually circuitous and often a patchwork, difficult to envision. Right now, however, it’s within the law, and its outcomes are hard to understand. I’m talking about some of the nation’s 435 Congressional districts.

BRACK: Hunter upends Gwinnett County’s calm diverse community

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Social media is wonderful and amazing. It is changing the world. But we are finding, it can be dangerous and upsetting, too.

How many family feuds have emerged from the unwise use of social media, with some relatives just plain being too open or curt?

BRACK: Our sincere wishes to President Donald Trump on his inauguration day

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Today Donald Trump becomes the 45th president of the United States.

We hope that his administration is a good one for our country. He comes to the office after an unprecedented candidacy, and with the backing of many citizens who sometimes feel disenfranchised from everyday America. He also comes to the office without having won the popular vote.

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Let’s crank up the old Catch Up app for today. We’ve been holding back on these few items, and give them life today.

ONE PERSON wrote with their outlook for 2017: “Keep your fingers crossed.”

BRACK: Trump administration may be turning point for our government

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Thinking back politically into the middle of 2016, I must admit that I began to wonder if the GOP challenger Donald Trump might be moving the United States toward a seminal and decisive change.

BRACK: Bad weather forecasts mean millions lost in economic impact

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Well, the Atlanta weatherpeople got it wrong again last weekend. Don’t know how many times this makes it. If threatening weather is anticipated, all us listeners really want to know. We listen avidly to the radio and television. And we have learned to take decisive action. Even our governor has learned this, after a real jam-up last year.

BRACK: Founding Fathers of 1776? Most were relatively younger men

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Here at the end of the year, let’s air some thoughts squirreled away.

FOUNDING FATHERS: You hear all sorts of references to our “founding fathers.” Many were relatively young, that is, under 40 in 1776.

But did you ever stop to realize just how young these people we venerate as our founders of this country really were? It might surprise you.

BRACK: Dangerous Holcomb Bridge rail crossing may get relief via Internet

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | The City of Norcross may get a gift from Google next year. It won’t be something to unwrap, but it could help solve a major problem in the city.

You see, the most dangerous railroad crossing in Gwinnett is in the middle of Norcross, the Holcomb Bridge Road crossing of the Norfolk-Southern rail tracks. The big problem is that the roadbed takes a big dip downward on the westward side.
