BRACK: The mouth waters quickly at Rodney Scott’s barbecue in Charleston

BRACK: The mouth waters quickly at Rodney Scott’s barbecue in Charleston

The first thing that hits you when stepping into Rodney Scott’s Barbecue at 1011 King Street here is how very clean the place is.   It pristinely sparkles and shines with neatness, everything in place, while the  floor appears clean enough to eat on. It’s a far cry from most barbecue joints, often in rundown shacks with sawdust on the floor. Even his outdoor seating area, if you don’t mind the Charleston humidity, is clean and neat, with wood for the cooking in half-cord stacks of oak, pecan and hickory.

BRACK: Here’s a reflective look at this 2018 Georgia elective season

Today let’s take a look at the Georgia political scene for 2018.

Some of you have asked why GwinnettForum did not question these gubernatorial candidates in recent weeks as we spoke with many candidates.  We figure the voters know more about the governor’s  race than any other race in Georgia right now. So, we sought input only from candidates from lieutenant governor on down.

BRACK: Gwinnett, Metro Atlanta, finally moving toward key transit vote

APRIL 20, 2018  |  Finally, at long last, people throughout the area seem to be realizing that something must be done about the number one problem in Metro Atlanta: public transit.

We see this new concern in Gwinnett County, in Metro Atlanta, and most interestingly, at the Georgia General Assembly. Their action this year seems to open the possibility that significant transit action can start soon.

BRACK: Suddenly, among 64,500 people, there was an eerie feeling

By Elliott Brack | It was an eerie feeling.

Here we were at a sporting event along with 64,500 others, and all day, there was hubbub all around us, a loud buzz of voices continually yakking, no matter where you were.  People were excited and moving about.

We were in Hot Springs, Ark., at Oaklawn Park, where the ponies run. It was late in the day.

Part of all the moving around was, of course, going to and from the betting windows. Most of the long row of windows were stacked with five-seven-nine people, some putting down a new bet, a few cashing in their winning tickets.

BRACK: Recalling an early memory of a favorite Gospel song in church

BRACK: Recalling an early memory of a favorite Gospel song in church

One of my earlier recollections came when about age 4-5-6, when going to church with my parents. It was at Walnut Creek Baptist Church, still a vibrant congregation near Allentown, Ga.

For some reason, at that young age, my favorite hymn was No. 70. Now what the name of that song was, I just don’t remember. But it might have been “I Feel Like Traveling On.”  You remember the lyrics.
