BRACK: Oh, the times have changed quite quickly in politics in Gwinnett

BRACK: Oh, the times have changed quite quickly in politics in Gwinnett

NOV. 9, 2018  |  Let’s take a look at the 2018 elections.

In many ways, in the still-to-be-called races, matters are going like they should.

While there still votes to be counted, those leading in races say what they should: they claim victory.  Meanwhile, the candidates who are trailing maintain that the race isn’t quite over yet, so they’re not conceding.

BRACK: We hate to predict, but statewide politics may not be over Tuesday

By Elliott Brack  | Here’s what we’ll predict: if the political polls are as accurate as the pollsters hope they will be in the 2018 election, politics in Georgia won’t be over today. We predict we’ll have a runoff in the governor’s race, and at least two other statewide races.

BRACK: The Indians used weirs to pull fish from the Chattahoochee

OCT. 31, 2018  | Gwinnett’s western border, all the way from Lake Lanier to below Holcomb Bridge Road where Gwinnett meets DeKalb County, is the Chattahoochee River.  That cold-water flowing river has been a major force for people in this area for years.

BRACK: Consideration of 5 constitutional amendments on coming ballot

OCT. 26, 2018  | Voters on November 6 will again be asked several questions concerning whether the state Constitution should be amended.  Each time we see such amendments on the ballot, we get concerned, for several reasons.

BRACK: Wally Eberhard: A person instrumental in changing my life

By Elliott Brack | Many of us could name one or two key people who have dramatically changed our lives. One such person died recently who set our life on a new path, one we never imagined.

10/16: GwinnettForum’s 2018 endorsement issue

10/16: GwinnettForum’s 2018 endorsement issue

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | After nearly a full year of people campaigning for election in 2018, the end is near. On November 6, Georgians will vote in the General Election, picking the people to lead our nation in Congress, our state government and our local governments for the short-term future.

Despite all the rhetoric and commercials about the election, we can only hope that our voters will see through the smokescreens and innuendos, and decide for themselves which of the many candidates to support.

GwinnettForum again this year has interviewed state and local candidates—-88 so far—to learn about them so it can select the candidates most worthy of the Gwinnett voter’s choice. What follows is our endorsement of the candidates we think will best serve our area in the coming years.  It was a delight to see so many good candidates offer for office.

BRACK: Foiled for 65 years, GOP finally getting Supreme Court it wants

By Elliott Brack | Ever since Dwight Eisenhower became president in 1953, Republicans have been trying to turn the Supreme Court more conservative. While Republican presidents since then have appointed 20 court justices, Democratic presidents have appointed only eight justices. Yet the court has remained at least moderate centrist to liberal.

BRACK: Another fine trip, but this time not to a distant country

By Elliott Brack | Many of you know that I like to travel to new lands.  My most recent trip was only 16 miles in length, and for 10 days. The destination was Gwinnett Medical Center, where I successfully underwent bypass surgery on August 13.
