Unterman

BRACK: An open letter to  Sen. Renee Unterman

By Elliott Brack | FEB. 22, 2019  — Now, Renee. Don’t run for the Seventh District seat in Congress.

Gwinnett County, Buford, and the state need you in the Georgia Senate, where you will remain much more effective than you would as a freshman representative in the House of Representatives in Washington.

BRACK: It’s not always easy to be fair to all in the media business

BRACK: It’s not always easy to be fair to all in the media business

By Elliott Brack  |  It’s not always easy to be fair.

Sometimes in attempting to be fair, you are skewing the process, and before you realize it, you are either being not fair, or over-fair.

Woodall

BRACK: Surprise announcement by Woodall may foretell good for Democrats

By Elliott Brack  |  It was surprising to read that U.S. Congressman Rob Woodall, representing the Seventh District which includes much of Gwinnett, will not seek another term in Congress. After all, he had just won re-election to another term. But what was even more surprising was that this announcement came a little more than a month after Rep. Woodall was into his fifth term serving in Washington.

BRACK: Go for it, Jeff Bezos; Take on the slimy National Enquirer

FEB. 12, 2019  |  When you think of the higher elements of our American democracy, terms harking back to the Declaration of Independence easily come to mind: “Freedom,” “Liberty” and the “Pursuit of happiness.”  With these thoughts extended, you soon remember many positive aspects, such as “The American way,” “Getting the job done,” and our “Can-do attitude.”

BRACK: High school girls flag football completes first season in Gwinnett

By Elliott Brack   |  Gwinnett County has a new sport for high schools, girls flag football. Each of all 19 high schools of the Gwinnett County Public Schools fielded a seven-woman team last year, with Peachtree Ridge High coming out the county winner in a playoff over Grayson, 20-0. The Gwinnett public schools offer the only girls high school flag football program in the state.

BRACK: It appears to me that the City of Buford is getting  a bum rap

By Elliott Brack | From what I know, I think the people of Buford are getting a bum rap.

Buford is a good place to live, lots of people know. It has a tremendous community spirit. Its people are top notch, and recognize that being a resident of Buford is something of which to be proud.

BRACK: New mayor of Dacula already has 10 years on city council

By Elliott Brack | When the Dacula City Council voted to name a replacement for the late Mayor Jim Wilbanks, they picked someone not an elected city councilman. However, he was the present chair of the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

BRACK: Encourage others to talk up and support March 19 MARTA vote

BRACK: Encourage others to talk up and support March 19 MARTA vote

By Elliott Brack  |  Many people in Gwinnett are astounded that the county is approaching having a population of a million people. The estimated current population is 950,000. They are astounded, that is, in one way.

When you live and pretty much stay in one area of the county, and don’t get out of that area much, you know the streets are usually crowded. But it doesn’t seem like there are about a million people around you.

McGill

BRACK: There’s no one in the South filling the void that Ralph McGill left

By Elliott Brack | |  It’s fulfilling and fun to go back and re-read some of what you have read before. Heading for a doctor’s appointment, and not having a book for the waiting room, at the GwinnettForum office I pulled from the shelf a small book from more than 50 years ago. Its title was “The Fleas Come with the Dog,” by the late editor and publisher of the Atlanta Constitution, Ralph McGill, a giant of a man.

BRACK: It’s good to have seen 4 citizens serve Gwinnett well

By Elliott Brack | Deaths seem to come in bunches. In the last week or so, we’ve been to two funerals, had a funeral conflict with another and missed one. All four of the recent deceased made a lasting impression on us, and on Gwinnett County.
