BRACK: Reviewing the Continuing Objectives for Gwinnett County

By Elliott Brack2  |  At the start of this new year 2022, GwinnettForum steps back and takes a look at our Continuing Objectives for Gwinnett, which we publish in each issue.  These are the larger issues of the day, and not the day-to-day minor changes that government is always going through. We post them in each issue to keep reminding our governmental leaders that going about matters in the same old fashion way can stymie good government. Government must forever be looking for improved ways to serve the Gwinnett constituents, and be open to change.

BRACK: Most popular man in Georgia today? Stetson Bennett

By Elliott Brack |  Let’s talk politics eventually today. But first, who might be the most  popular man in Georgia this morning? Stetson Bennett IV.  The underdog Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback played a superb game in the Orange Bowl against the Big Ten’s Michigan. Bennett and his cohorts thoroughly dominated the once mighty Spartans, who came into the game with just one loss, and was ranked No. 2 by the pollsters, just ahead of Georgia.

BRACK: Understand the background of two Christmas carols

By Elliott Brack  |  One of the joys of the Christmas season is to return to the music of Christmas, particularly Christmas carols. Churches that devote a night to singing Christmas carols are always popular.  Churches will benefit if they  devote an entire night’s service to congregational singing of Christmas carols.

BRACK: My first real work was under frantic and constant pressure

By Elliott Brack  |  It doesn’t hurt to be under pressure to see how you fare. Now what to me seems tame these days was right up there in a pressured situation back in my early days in a newsroom. It was the first Friday night in September with me just starting to work on The Macon Telegraph, the morning newspaper. Previously I had been on the afternoon paper, and moved to the a.m. paper on Labor Day.

BRACK: Status of the newspaper industry is far from its best days

By Elliott Brack  |  People often ask me about the status of newspapers in our country. However, I am no expert, but I have spent a life in the business, and know others are seeing newspapers decline is not what they were expecting.

BRACK: Inland terminal near Gainesville may give Interstates relief

By Elliott Brack |  Good government to us means taking care of matters today, but also thinking well ahead to be prepared for what we know will be coming.

After all, another 2.5 million people are expected to live in Georgia by 2045 (24 years away), adding to Georgia’s present population of 10.7 million (2020 figure.)

BRACK: Two scary instances when driving for take-out food

By Elliott Brack  |  Headed out last week to pick up take-out food, two incidents gave me pause. It was about 6:15 p.m. when I turned on Holcomb Bridge Road, heading west, with little traffic in this lane. However, oncoming easterly traffic was unusually heavy. By then, it was fully dark, as we were back to standard time.

BRACK: On writing good op-ed columns

By Andy Brack  |  A way to influence how thought leaders consider an issue of public importance is to inject yourself into debate by writing a crisp, clear opinion editorial, or “op-ed,” for leading state and national media.
