ANOTHER VIEW: Amid anxieties and illness, remember: people are kind

By the Very Rev. Sam Candler  |  People are kind.

Let me interrupt the program. Let me gently interrupt our anxieties and illnesses, let me interrupt our sheer exasperation with this pandemic, with a special notice: People are kind.

ANOTHER VIEW: Time for radical change in USA concerning drug policy

By Michael Blackwood | Let me first add that I hate to say this, but in the interest of our citizens and as justified by the preamble of the Constitution, I believe it is time for a radical change in the United States’ drug policy. It is time to not only legalize drug use, but for the government to supply it.

BERNARD: It’s un-American to hold 700,000 “Dreamers” in limbo

BERNARD: It’s un-American to hold 700,000 “Dreamers” in limbo

By Jack Bernard, contributing columnist  |  As of 2017, there were nearly 700,000 “Dreamers.” These “Dreamers” are undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. They are named after the Dream Act, which was first introduced into Congress 20 years ago (and reintroduced numerous times since), but never passed because of opposition from Republicans.

ANOTHER VIEW: Thanksgiving gives us time to pause….and remember

By Randy Brunson  |  For the last several weeks the word ‘remember’ has been coming to mind. And I’ve been turning over in my mind the follow up question, “What do I need to remember?”

ANOTHER VIEW: Rittenhouse gun purchase may face more problems

By Raleigh Perry  |  Kyle Rittenhouse may have a few more problems.  There is a state law and a federal law that might bog him down for a spell.  Wisconsin law makes no difference.

VIEW: Newnan inspires thought: Let’s not allow dividers to win

By Andy Brack  | U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said something a couple of weeks back that’s been circling through my brain: “Look, I have this firm belief that if America hasn’t broken your heart, you don’t love her enough.”

My heart is breaking as our nation is being torn apart in ways never imagined by founding fathers and leaders of the country for 200 years.

WILSON: Media provides so much info, but why do we know so little?

By George Wilson, contributing editor | The national television newscasts on the three major networks seem to have abandoned their responsibilities. A long internal tug of war at these networks between the reporters, combined with others dedicated to serious news, and the producers, who tended to see television as a visual, constantly changing presentation, a show. The producers have won, because it helps revenue.

BERNARD: President Bush-2 outlined immigrant strategy years ago

By Jack Bernard, Peachtree City, Ga. | A recent Gallup study examined long-term trends in immigration attitudes among Americans, a topic perhaps of particular interest to those in Gwinnett County. Surprisingly, it found that the number of Americans who wanted immigration decreased had not changed much in 50 years. Only 38 percent of Americans currently (7-16) want a decrease in immigration versus 33 percent in 1965.
