BRACK: Suit against county on district lines may have wrong approach

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | Getting national attention last week was the story of minorities in Gwinnett bringing suit against the county for alleged voting irregularities in drawing boundaries for county commission and school board seats.

Time the story was out, the Los Angeles Times Reporter Jenny Jarvie delved back into the story. She may have hit the nail on the head when she talked to Brian Whiteside. He is a black Gwinnett attorney who may have one of the best positions to speak to this subject.

BRACK: Chefs aim for our big mouths when concocting thicker burgers

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | You’ve heard of people with “big mouths.” That’s often referring to people who talk too much on numerous subjects, some seeming to go on and on.

We’re thinking of “big mouths” in a different, more literal sense.

It’s what the nation’s fast-food chefs seem to cater to, people who can open their mouths superwide so as to consume the enormous hamburgers that the chefs are cooking up.

BRACK: That Brit system of picking a new leader can have its advantages

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | While the United States has been focused on campaigning for the presidency all of 18 months, look what took place in Great Britain in the last few weeks.

The English voted by a 52-48 percent margin that they wanted out of the European Union, ready to go on their own. That was June 23. Then the prime minister resigned the next day.

By Elliott Brack, editor and publisher | There are several reasons for you to visit Canada these days. We just returned from a nice trip to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Here are reasons to go to Canada now.
First, it’s cool. We left 95 degrees in Georgia, flew to Toronto, had a two-hour layover and arrived after nine hours’ travel in St. John’s to 50 degree weather. During the entire 10 days there, it never got beyond 72 degrees.

BRACK: Bridge over I-16 to be named for fallen firefighter from Gwinnett

For instance, when motorists are driving down Interstate 16 toward Savannah, south of Macon you see a sign for the town of Allentown. Motorists along about a 20-mile section of this interstate are under the protection of the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department. The department often makes emergency runs — about 16 percent of its calls — for accidents or auto fires on the Interstate.
