BRACK: Here are GwinnettForum endorsements in the July 24 runoff primaries

JULY 3, 2018  |  GwinnettForum urges registered votes to return to the voting booths on July 24 in the runoff of the two parties to determine the nominations for the General Election.

Even registered voters who did not vote in the May primary are eligible to vote in the runoff. However, if you voted in the primary, you must vote in the same party’s runoff on July 24.

BRACK: Think big on transit: Extend heavy rail lines to Infinite Energy Arena

By Elliott Brack  |  Gwinnettians can expect a decision by the County Commission soon on whether there will be a question on the ballot about public transportation, that is, MARTA, on the November ballot.

We hope there is. The commission could also postpone the vote, so that the county might vote instead later on whether it should join the new Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority, being called The ATL.

BRACK: Here’s a glimmer of hope which might improve Washington politics

BRACK: Here’s a glimmer of hope which might improve Washington politics

By Elliott Brack | When something is in disarray, any little speck of hope is important.

Certainly our current Congress, the 115th gathering, is in “disarray.”  Each of the two parties has fringe elements that keep the mainline party leadership unable to convince the majority of their parties that real action is needed.

BRACK: Child of the Depression’s habits continue paying dividends to this day

JUNE 22, 2018  | Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the Depression.

Some folks might even call me “cheap.”

But you see, I like to find ways to save money, or at least reduce expenses. My parsimoniousness is also seen as I’ll stoop over to pick up a stray coin in the parking lot, even if it is a Lincoln copperhead.  Do you?

BRACK: Orderly world is so predictable, giving us home and comfort

JUNE 19, 2018  | One thing people around the entire world can count on: the world is orderly.  We don’t have a playful God that lets the sun rise on one side today, and then on the other side tomorrow.  Our physical world is predictable, unsurprising and stable.

BRACK: Casino gambling in Georgia will harm local entertainment venues

JUNE 15, 2018  |  When Justin Timberlake played the Infinite Energy Arena on May 11, there was a record attendance, along with record gate receipts, as more than 12,149 people were in attendance, paying $2.2 million for tickets for the performance. A few days later, the U2 tour would break the Arena’s attendance and gate receipts records again.

Ever wonder how that money pile from these performers is split up? You may not realize this, but the performer gets it all.

BRACK: Visiting the new Paul Duke STEM School; Grad rates at Georgia State

JUNE 12, 2018  |  It was an early-morning open house recently at the new Paul Duke STEM High School in Norcross. I was disappointed in the lack of a crowd to tour the new facility. The school had mailed invitations for the public to come look at the just-finished school, though workmen were going through the final check-list while we were there.

The school itself is beautiful, built at 5850 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Norcross. It is expected to relieve crowded conditions at Norcross High, while offering an innovative program in science, technology, engineering and math.

BRACK: No man is above the law in the USA: That includes President Trump

JUNE 8, 2018  |  It’s just like the little fellow who cried “Wolf!” too often, which  after a while no one paid much attention to his panicking.

That’s the way I’ve come to feel about the many Tweets that President Trump continues to send out.  He had adopted this way to “reach the people” in spectacular fashion, though it may hurt him as much as he thinks it  helps.

BRACK: Georgia legislature’s unfunded mandate is wrong, hurting Stockbridge

JUNE 5, 2018  |  Talk about your unfunded mandates!

In this instance, the Georgia General Assembly has taken 6.1 square miles (approx. 3,917 acres) that belonged to the City of Stockbridge, and without a justification and totally unprecedented, legislated that a vast parcel of geography, an area with a population of 9,000 people, should be included within the corporate limits of the City of Eagle’s Landings.

BRACK: Short visit to Cincinnati gains the flavor of Ohio River city

By Elliott Brack | Skyline Chili is to Cincinnati what the Varsity is the Atlanta.

Chances are for Atlantans, that Skyline chili seems a little tame. But Cincinnatians probably wouldn’t appreciate the tanginess of the Varsity hot dog.

The Queen City of Cincinnati also cultivates people with praise for Graeter’s ice cream. While it could be good, perhaps it was the circumstances that we were in that didn’t allow us to appreciate it as we should.
