BRACK: Visit Loganville and you’ll see lots of good, steady growth

APRIL 30, 2019  |  Those of you who do not get to drive through Loganville may be surprised should you visit there. This easternmost city of Gwinnett County is mostly located in Walton County, and in the last few years, has seen solid growth.

The town is relatively small, with an estimated 12,062 residents now, but that’s up from 5,435 in 2000 and 10,485 in 2010.

BRACK: Here’s a way readers can help extend GwinnettForum’s reach

BRACK: Here’s a way readers can help extend GwinnettForum’s reach

By Elliott Brack  | Remembering back to 1974, as I moved here to join Gwinnett Daily News, I wondered how in the world a newspaper would cover a county with 100,000 people. It seemed nigh impossible.

Yet the newspaper I joined, Gwinnett Daily News, was becoming a really excellent newspaper. You covered a county by developing a hard-working and innovative staff for news and advertising, and delivered the paper on time.

BRACK: Remembering some fascinating journeys in different modes

By Elliott Brack  | Any trip can be great fun. We’ve had some unusual ones.Years ago, a friend offered a trip—for two—on the Goodyear Blimp, in Atlanta for a promotion. He said: “Just two seats, leaving at 2 p.m. Sunday.” That caused a problem in our five member family. Pulling straws, our youngest won the second seat available.

BRACK: Ledford ran elections in Gwinnett ever so smoothly

By Elliott Brack  | Elections in Gwinnett are very complicated processes, we have known all along. Gwinnett has been blessed to have Lynn Ledford as its Elections Director for the last 17 years. She has worked in the office for 32 years.

BRACK: County getting another world-class site with new Buford High School

By Elliott Brack  | “World class” means a lot in Gwinnett. People are coming here to view our world-class water filtration plant, plus the world-class water reclamation plant. They come here to understand more about our high quality school system, and they come here to view Gwinnett’s top tourist attraction, the BAPS mandir in Lilburn.

BRACK: Recent GOP Gwinnett House delegation move is quite perplexing

By Elliott Brack  | It was one of the most perplexing turns of the recent Georgia General Assembly. Out of nowhere, the six member Gwinnett House Republican delegation, near the end of the session, issued a press release saying that they were amending legislation to limit Gwinnett County from voting on another transit plan before 2026…..eight years away.

BRACK: Riverside Military Academy installs Dr. Stas as its new president

By Elliott Brack |  The place was Gainesville, at Riverside Military Academy (RMA) on Friday, as Col. (and Dr.) Stanley Preczewski  was installed as that school’s new president. A delegation of people from Gwinnett were on hand for this new chapter in “Stas” life. He was the second president of Georgia Gwinnett College, and has been a member of the RMA trustees for three years.

BRACK: On our first vacation and a refreshing, cool drink

By Elliott Brack  | Vacations are considered routine today. For the average working Joe, you can look to the time after World War II when taking some time off—sometimes with pay—began to be routine with working people.

BRACK: Put transit on the 2020 general election ballot to see it passed

BRACK: Put transit on the 2020 general election ballot to see it passed

By Elliott Brack  |  So it’s back to the drawing board for transit in Gwinnett.  The tyranny of the minority—nine percent of the 543,000 people registered to vote in Gwinnett, defeated the proposal to bring modern transit to the county. The vote was 49,936 to 41,985, a difference of 7,951. Only 16.7 percent of those registered actually voted in the referendum.

BRACK: Transit question is Gwinnett’s most important vote of recent years

By Elliott Brack   |  Yes, we know. We’ve virtually omitted several subjects on which we could have been writing lately in favor of comments of different kinds about the transit question. We’ve done this since we think the transit question is the most important vote that Gwinnett has taken in the last 30 years.
