BRACK: City of Moultrie dedicates new medical campus for south Georgia

By Elliott Brack  | This South Georgia community got something no other city in Southwest Georgia has on Tuesday — a medical school. The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), which has had a campus in Suwanee since 2005, opened a South Georgia campus on Tuesday. Classes will begin for 59 freshmen students on Monday.

BRACK: We put another nickel in the ways we now constantly hear music

By Elliott Brack  | It’s amazing to me how much many of us spend on recorded music. From listening to individual tunes, to buying instruments to play these songs, to providing a few cents to the individual composers, not just Americans, but people all over the world shell out a lot of money for music.

BRACK: Route of Phase 3 of Sugarloaf Parkway Extension may surprise some

By Elliott Brack  | Some day, years from now, a few homeowners in Gwinnett are going to be surprised to find a four-lane highway mighty close to the homes that they occupy in 2019.  The roadway will be the extension of Sugarloaf Parkway, which planners have already put in motion.

BRACK: Bet on a political race? Would have better chance on a horse race

BRACK: Bet on a political race? Would have better chance on a horse race

By Elliott Brack   | Horse races I’ll bet on.  But an election? Never.

After all, in horse races, there are certain probabilities. You know the horse’s record and its ancestry, the jockey, trainer and owner’s record, and even track conditions. You also know lots about the horse’s opponents.

Norman Rockwell’s depiction of "Freedom from Fear."

BRACK: Freedom from fear is one of our basic rights in the USA

By Elliott Braci  | It was the way that President Trump went about trying to deport people that bugged me.  He made several announcements and pronouncements well in advance that on a certain Sunday there would be raids to “send ‘em back” to their home country.

This caused great fear among people, many of them working steadily for their citizenship, fearful that they somehow would be caught up in this rush to judgment, and be deported.

BRACK: Small bit of history made on Beaver Ruin Road Tuesday afternoon

By Elliott Brack | There was excitement in the air Tuesday afternoon, as a small group gathered mostly under a shade tree in front of the Norcross First United Methodist Church, though there were chairs empty in the sun. They might not have been there for the dedication of a new crosswalk on busy Beaver Ruin Road if it hadn’t been for a chance conversation between a mother and an employee of the Gateway85 Community Improvement District.

BRACK: Gwinnett Stripers having good year at CoolRay; In second place

By Elliott Brack | The Atlanta area is enjoying winning baseball more this year, as both the Atlanta Braves and Gwinnett Stripers are having good seasons. The Braves are in first place, up by seven games after sweeping the first series in San Diego after the All-Star break.  Meanwhile, the Gwinnett Stripers are having a good season, making a lot of noise, with lots of heavy hitting, and are in second place in their division of the Class AAA International League.

BRACK: What would you have done about all that flying money on I-285?

BRACK: What would you have done about all that flying money on I-285?

By Elliott Brack   | It’s not every day that you are driving down Interstate 285, or any other interstate, and you run into an ethical problem.

That’s the thought that came into my mind when hearing about greenbacks being blown out of a cash-carrying armored truck on Interstate 285 near Ashford Dunwoody Road on Tuesday night.  Drivers behind the truck were jerking to the side of the road, jumping out, and frantically picking up currency, some in $100 bills. An officer was quoted: “Ones, five, fifties, you name it, it was there.”

BRACK: We’ve always been a dog family; One looked like Walter Cronkite

By Elliott Brack  | Even before our family had children, we’ve had dogs. All lived to older lives. We’ve also had a few temporary dogs, not always of our choosing.

When returning from our 3.5 years in Germany in the Army, we shipped home George, a purebred German wire-haired terrier. He was with us in Iowa and in South Georgia. He died when he was nine years old.

BRACK: Classmate led admirable life, associated with Girl Scout camp

By Elliott Brack  | A classmate from high school died recently. His name was Gerald Smith, who lived in Lizella, near Macon. While I knew him in high school, we were not close. Yet he led such an interesting and contributing life, that I admired him from afar.
