Mark Andrew Thornell, born August 20, 1968, in Bangkok, Thailand, to Lieutenant Colonel
Michael J. Thornell and Katherine S. Thornell, passed quietly in his home Thursday, March 18,
2021. He was surrounded in love by his wife Kristen, his daughter Andrea and his brother Trent Thornell. He was the director of the Peachtree Corners YMCA.
Mark will always be remembered as someone who effortlessly exemplified kindness and gave of himself in so many ways. His inspirational walk, contagious smile, funny gestures and his warm embrace are all hard to forget and will leave a lasting impression on us all. It is true that his spirit will live on and his presence each day will be greatly missed.
Mark began his battle with cancer in 2018. His diagnosis at that time had given us a vision of a
new life. He called it his “Journey” and he knew it had, at some point, an end. He handled this
journey with bravery the kind only a warrior could have and the kind he can be remembered for.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kristen, and daughter, Andrea. His mother, brothers, parents-in-law and immediate family, that are many, friends near and far and co-workers alike are deeply saddened with his absence from us. He leaves us all with hope and joy that he is at Peace and is smiling for us all today.
A memorial service for Mark was held Saturday April 3 at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church. A CaringBridge site has been opened in his name for all to share stories of Mark.
